The Liver Center is pleased to announce a new award opportunity for UCSF trainees at all levels working under the supervision of Liver Center members (graduate student, medical student, MD or PhD postdoc, MD research fellow). The award is a one-time prize of $10,000 to support ongoing training and the privilege of being designated a “Bissell Liver Scholar.” This opportunity is being offered in honor of Dr. D. Montgomery (Monty) Bissell, a pioneer in the field of liver cell biology and former director of the UCSF Liver Center. Monty’s vision, enthusiasm and determination led to numerous advances in hepatology. His mentorship facilitated the success of scores of liver researchers.
Hepatology trainees are invited to submit a concise but ambitious vision statement outlining their goals for advancing our understanding of liver biology and disease. Entries will be judged by Dr. Bissell himself, along with Dr. Marion Peters, another esteemed Liver Center emerita. A maximum of two awards will be granted in June 2021.
Liver Center members: we encourage you to make your trainees who may not be on our mailing list aware of this rare opportunity. See the fillable application form below.
Entries are due by Monday, May 24.
We look forward to receiving your entries!
Sincerely,
Jackie Maher, Holger Willenbring and the Liver Center Internal Executive Committee
