Defects in Cholangiocyte Survival and Development Manifesting as Biliary Atresia

Dr. Bezerra uses a rotavirus-induced experimental model of biliary atresia in neonatal mice and human biliary organoids to study pathogenic mechanisms of biliary atresia. His current studies investigate: 1) How the immune system and the microbiome injure or protect bile ducts;  2) Developmental defects of bile duct epithelium, and 3) predictive analytics to improve diagnosis and treatment. His research is funded by the National Institutes of Health.

After the seminar there will be an opportunity for faculty and trainnees to interact with the speaker in a small group setting. Please email Lisa McNichol if you want to participate.
