Functional characterization and therapeutic targeting of gene regulatory elements
Dr. Ahituv investigates gene regulatory elements and their relationship to human biology and disease. Through a combination of strategies, his group is working to elucidate mechanisms by which variation in the regulatory elements surrounding specific genes leads to changes in phenotypes. One area of study in his laboratory involves the genes that encode membrane transport proteins. Diversity in the regulatory elements controlling these proteins can lead to variations in response to drugs.
