Research Interests
Research in the Kuo laboratory is focused on the biologic characterization of novel molecules regulating angiogenesis, and assessment of their use for anti-angiogenic therapy of cancer. Recent studies led to the finding that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) negatively regulates erythropoietin production by hepatocytes, and that hepatocyte erythropoietin expression is under tonic regulation by paracrine VEGF from the sinusoidal endothelium. We are continuing to pursue novel means of cross-talk between hepatocytes and endothelial cells. Other interests include regulation of intestinal stem cells and functional genomics of colon cancer.
