The Liver Center offers several academic enrichment opportunities for its members, ranging from informal work-in-progress meetings to formal seminars and symposia. Upcoming highlights can be viewed in the Center’s Calendar of Events.
Work-in-progress series
This monthly program features informal presentations by Center members or their trainees, with the objectives of highlighting investigative approaches and prompting critical review and discussion of unpublished material. The series is scheduled the third Friday morning of each month from 9:00-10:00 AM. The time is split in half so each Center member has 30 minutes for a presentation. View the list of presenters here.
Liver Center Seminar series
This is a monthly hour-long program for all Center members. The annual calendar is divided into four seminars for each of the three Center themes. The schedule for each theme will include one invited guest, two Center members, and a pair of Center members who conduct a “bench-to-bedside” presentation.
Topic-focused symposia
Still in the planning phase, this program will offer each of the Center’s three research themes the opportunity to organize one symposium per year. The tentative format is for six speakers in a half-day morning meeting followed by lunch. These symposia will feature Center scientists and other local experts. Although individual symposia are designed to serve a specific research theme, all Center members are invited and encouraged to participate.
Informational and training workshops
These will be conducted on an ad hoc basis to demonstrate the application and value of core services or provide special expertise, such as mouse liver histology interpretation (April 2007). View pending workshops.
Annual retreat
This 1.5-day program is coordinated with the annual site visit of the Center’s External Advisory Board in May. The scientific program includes brief presentations from Pilot/Feasibility awardees and/or applicants, Center members, and a keynote presentation from an Advisory Board member.
