The Immunology & Virology Core provides two types of service: (1) cell and cytokine analysis by flow cytometry and (2) quantitation of hepatitis viruses in biological samples by molecular methods. Although at first glance the Core’s name suggests a focus on infectious and immune-mediated liver injury, its services are applicable to a broad spectrum of liver research. The Core applies flow cytometry to the analysis of a number of liver-derived cells including hepatocytes, sinusoidal endothelial cells and liver progenitor cells in addition to liver immune cells. These techniques are relevant to studies ranging from liver development to hepatotoxicity and viral hepatitis to liver cancer and transplantation.

The Immunology & Virology Core is located on the Parnassus Heights campus. Its services are designed to serve basic and clinical/translational investigators alike. The goal of the Core is to provide high-quality and cost-effective research support to liver-focused investigators.

Recharges apply to some, but not all of the Core’s services. A list of Core services and prices can be downloaded here.
